£20,000 Fine for London Landlord£20,000 Fine for London Landlord

Posted 08/02/10 17:02.

A London landlord has pleaded guilty to breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)Order and has been ordered to pay over £20,000 in fines and costs. The judge viewed this as an extremely serious case where the landlord had clearly ignored his duties as "the responsible person" for the property. When fire safety inspectors visited the premises in North Side London they found stored materials blocking the escape routes. Smoke alarms had either been removed or contained low batteries. No fire safety procedures were in place and there was no way of informing tennants about fire safety arrangements. Furthermore there was no fire risk assessment in place.
