Food Factory Manager Fined £14,000

A food factory in Edmonton in London was found to have no proper means of fire detection and no emergency plan in place when visited by London Fire Brigade inspectors. The first storey fire escape route had no proper fire protection despite the fact that people were sleeping on that floor.Furthermore the windows to the alternative escape route were not fire resistant. The factory manger could not provide any evidence relating to either fire safety training or fire risk assessment. Magistrates accordingly fined the manager,as the responsible person for the premises, a total of £14,000 plus £6,380 costs.
